Week before water festival break

The last week of school before we got a week off due to the "Water Festival" was really busy.

As you will see in the photos we have been learning lots of things.

Mr Matt has had the class excited to learn about coding.

He also talked the class about future job prospects and if they decided to head down the line of IT that the world is desperatley short of coding designers.

We also got to spend time with our buddy class "Tigers" and we helped our buddies in creating stories.

As part of our UOI we got to play with Electircity Lab" - create miniture circuit boards.

The children got to see if they could create a circuit and have light switch included in their circuit.

It was not as easy as some thought it would be. The groups worked really hard trying to problem solve and to get their circuits to work.

Finally as part of our homework on instructional writing the class had to cook/bake their favourite biscuit, slice or cake. Put the recipe on thier own blog, take photos and share with the class what they made.

There were some yummy dishes that came into class.

Mr Simon was in his element and he thought he was back in his old school staffroom enjoying Friday special morning tea.

The children did some great baking with some real traditional dishes made.

Field Trip to Kid City Science Floor

On Wednesday the class visited Kids City Science floors to learn more about our unit on Energy.

It was great hands on experience with the children getting to experiment making energy.

They also got a chance to go into the "Dark room" where they used up a lot of their energy screaming.

They got the chance to do an experiment (Chemical energy) on burning a peanut and the oil it produces.

It showed them how the body has to digest fats and oils in our body. They also looked at heat energy and how heat rises and can be used to produce simple energy. Luckily for us no burnt fingers.

We also talked about kinetic and potential energy.

Unpacking new UOI - How the world works

This week was the start of our new UOI - How the world works - Energy.

Our central idea being that Energy exists in different forms and is used in our everyday life.

This week we have been busy unpacking the central idea as well as looking at procedural writing text. We have been pulling procedural text apart and  having a go at a few experiments.

Stop go motion in action

Today the children got an opportunity to work with a buddy and create a movie using Lego Stop Go Motion.

They were only given 2 hours and limited resources to create their moive.

The theme was a "Heist". Stealing something. Some used animals raiding a village food supply, while others used museum items being stolen.

I look forward to seeing their movies when they finish and upload them to their blogs.

It was great listening to the children talk and discuss what they were doing. They had to problem solve and create a story that the audience can understand.

Some creative thinking took place as they worked on their movie.
