Art - Murals

For the past couple of weeks the grade 4 classes have been busy painting murals with Ms Dana.

When completed these murals will be hung up around the school.

Today I popped in to see how they were getting on and even picked up a paint brush to help out a group of girls.

Unfortunately I did not listen to the instructions given and ended up painting over a window. I am sure they can fix up my mistake.

The children are working on huge canvases and it was great watching and listening to the discussions taking place. Superb teamwork to get these murals complete.

The art room was a buzz of excitement when I was in there.

Check out how they are doing.

UOI - Artistic creativity

This week as part of finishing up our unit of inquiry "On how we express ourselves".  The class have been busy working on creating their own collage based on a street scene from Phnom Penh.

It has been really lovely working alongside the children as they create their collages.

Listening to the children sing and talk as they worked gave me a wonderful insite into their lives and how open minded they all are.

I can't wait to see their finished work.

The work they are creating is

UOI - Artist Frederikke

On Wednesday we were lucky enough to have Frederikke a Danish artist living in Phnom Penh. She told the children that she has been drawing, sketching, painting, creating since she was 11 years old.

She loves to work in water colours because as a child water colour paints were easy to take away when she travelled and you can do so much with them

She is also runs her own business subsidizing her art by creating animated online gift cards. (e-cards)

Here is the link to her blog. You can see some of her work.

She also has a business creating beautiful e cards. She showed us three of the animations she has created. Here is the link to the website - if you are interested in seeing more.

G4 Assembly

Last week the G4 children ran and organised the school assembly in the black box theatre.

It was the first time the school had been in the theatre and were very excited.

It was a great celebration of what the children have been learning and doing in the classes.

The children shared what they had been doing in our unit "How we express ourselves" - That artistic expression is influenced by the society in which it exits.

They shared examples of writing and thanked the community - various artist that came into the school for their support.

The children ended the assembly by singing the song "Brave". We thought this was a great song for the team as it talks about being risktakers and not giving up.

Dance workshop & secondary art

Today we were lucky enough to have the talented Mr Stephen Bimson (classically trained ballet teacher) come into school to work with the grade 4 classes on another form of artistic expression - DANCE.

He told the children that dance is another form of art and that artist don't answer questions they pose questions, they get people to think about what is happening around them.
Dancers ask - how is this affecting me, others and the world around them?

The children really enjoyed another way to express themselves.

The class also visited the art on display in the secondary art gallery.

The children were impressed with the art on display. They each had to select which piece of work they would put in their house.

Some interesting choices.
