Something special

This week the class had to bring an item from home to share with the class.
They had time to practice what they wanted to say at home then they had to tell the class about it. There were some really special items from family photos to special watches.

I was really proud of the effort they put in especially speaking in front of the class.

Speaking infront of your peers is one of the biggest fears people have, it is not an easy thing to do.

First swimming of the year

Today was our first session at swimming with Mr Ben.
I was really impressed with the skill level of the class.
Swimming is great skill to have and I look forward to watching the skill level improve over the coming year.

Essential Agreement and Vision Statement

This week the children had to illustrate our school vision statement and then explain their illustration to the class.

Everyone had a different way of illustrating it and all had a great understanding of the school vision.

We also dispayed our class essential agreement.

Unpacking our Cental Idea

The children today worked in small groups to unpack the central idea for our unit of inquiry "Shape of a Leader".

Cental Idea - "People have played a leading role in society, which has resulted in change."

They had to find the key words and in their own words tell the class what it meant to them.

Introduction to our Unit of Inquiry

Today the class was introduced to our Unit of Inquiry - "The shape of a Leader".







With the help of Ms Marcelle (EAL) we looked at some key words. The children had to come up with a definition for them and put them in a sentence.

During PE with Mr Ben the children were put into two teams where they had to work as a team listening to their leader. There brief was to get the group from one end of a bench seat to the other end without touching the ground. To make it harder the order had to be from tallest to shortest.

It was interesting watching the children have to listen to their allocated leader and work as a team.

Homework is due back on Friday. Don't forget to fill out your reading log each night.

Remember swim team trials today after school for returning swim club members and Tuesday 2.45 for all those children wanting to try out.

Grade 4 Homework                                                                                        11 - 15 August 2015

                      

	Mathematics Mathletics  Log onto Mathletics and play live Mathletics to practice your basic facts.  Try and challenge a classmate.
	Getting to Know You - Oral Language and Visual Presentation. Oral: Bring an object from home that tells the class about you. Your peers will make predictions and ask you questions about the object to learn more about you.  Practice what you will say. Visual Presentation: Share some interesting images so your class will find out more about you.  You may like to use Google slides, powerpoint, Prezzi or make a poster.
	Reading Read for 15-20 minutes every day. Record your reading in the back of your homework book.

Unpacking our School Vision and Essential Agreement

On Friday the class spent time unpacking our school Vision and creating our class essential agreement.

VISION

"Learning together, growing together, each making a difference."

The children had to be creative and illustrate what they think our school vision means to them.


They will share their illustrations to the class and we will create a class collage. I was really impressed with the creativity of the children and how hard they worked. They definitely understand our school vision. I will share their illustrations once they are finished.

They also spent time creating our class essential agreement - what helps them learn. The class talked about what they saw as most important for our class essential agreement which will maximise learning for everyone.

This will become our guideline in the classroom to support our learning.

Our Essential Agreement
- Be supportive, listen to others people's ideas and work cooperatively

·     Never give up. Keep trying even when it is hard

·    Be a thinker. Ask questions and search for the answer

·    Try new things, even if scares you

·    Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. We learn from them

·    Enjoy your work and be creative

We finished off the day with a game that Miss Alison taught us called "Stop Ball" with the rest of the Grade 4 classes putting into practice our essential agreement.
