Kamishibai presentations

Today we worked again with our buddy class the "tigers" to finish off our Kamishibai stories.

Once completed each group presented their stories to the class. Mr Bernard was on hand to listen to some of these very cleaver stories.

The great thing about a Kamishibai story is that you can change the story each time you tell it. You can add or change the story each time.

The groups did amazing sharing their stories.

Class door decorating

One of the activities for book week was the challenge of decorating your door.

Classes could do anything they liked to decorate their door with the theme being book week. Classes choose to do book shelves, picture colleges and book covers.

It was not easy for the judges (6 student councillors and 3 teachers to decided) the criteria was creativity, colourful and imaginative.
There were some wonderful doors but there can only be one winner.

This year the door that won was Ms Melinda's Grade 5 class. There door was called "Running Wild".

Check out the doors below. Which is your favorite?

Book week quiz winners

This week Mr Simon as part of book week has been running a prize draw for all those that can answer the daily book quiz questions correctly in the daily bulletin.
Today was prize day with 3 names randomly drawn out of a hat if they had answered the daily prize correct.
The prize was a drink from the cafeteria. (very lucky)

The winners were Wattai, Oona and Kelly. All three had their name in the draw 5 times as they were the only ones to answer the questions correctly each day. They had a very good chance of getting their names pulled out.
I am sure they enjoyed the cold drink after lunch.
I am sure Mr Simon's wallet didn't.

Birthdays

This week saw two of our class members reach the milestone of double figures (10)

Both Gangmin and Seo Young turned 10 this week. The class was very spoilt with both children bringing into class lovely cup cakes to share with the children.

Mr Simon and the children enjoyed them immensely.

A huge thank you to both Gangmin and Seo Young's parents for this lovely treat.

Kamishibai with our buddy class

This week we are working with our KG buddy class to create "Kamishibai".
The children partner up with a buddy from our KG class.

Mr Bernard talked to the children about how to create characters and that you can use your imagination and anything can become a character and everyone talks in Kamishibai stories.

Together with their partner they had to come up with a very simple story line and create 6 pages for their kamishibai.
The first page was introducing the two characters and then them meeting and then a problem and hopefully the problem solved. The children then spent time illustrating their pages and later on will have time practicing telling their stories to an audience.
Mr Bernard was really impressed with the quality of stories being created.

Islam Mosque visit

On Thursday the grade 4 children loaded up onto buses for their last field trip.

This time we visited an Islam Mosque as part of our unit of inquiry on Beliefs.

It was a beautiful building.

The Imam (head priest) spoke to the children about the Islam faith (Muslim) and answered the children's questions.

The girls all enjoyed having to cover their heads and wear head scarfs as a sign of respect of the Islam faith.
